Looking to Adopt?
Need Help With Your Pet?

Animals for Life is a no-kill animal shelter located in Connecticut. We adopt homeless cats and dogs into loving families. Every pet in our care receives a veterinary examination, vaccinations and is spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

If you are interested in adopting a loving pet to add to your family, please visit our shelter in Middlebury. We have dogs and cats of many ages, sizes and breeds who are awaiting adoption!

Animals for Life makes a lifetime commitment to every AFL animal, and our mission does not end with adoption. AFL volunteers will follow up with you after you adopt your new pet to offer advice, support, and resource services, should you need them.

If you have any questions about our organization or about the animals in our care, we want to hear from you!

You can reach Animals for Life by calling our regional telephone hotline at (203) 267-6777 or via email at information@animalsforlifect.org

$5,000 ASPCA Grant Helps Cats Saved
From a Hoarder

Animals for Life worked with animal control officers through the summer and fall to help a number of cats and kittens who were living in a neglectful hoarding situation.  Animals for Life committed to the rehabilitation and adoptive placement of 18 adult cats and kittens that were removed from the home.  Of those 18 cats, 3 were pregnant.  Their litters, born at the shelter, added 7 beautiful kittens whose lives were saved as well from the horrific living conditions.

All of the cats and kittens removed from this hoarding situation required extensive medical care, which stretched AFL’s financial resources to the limit especially during these difficult economic times.

Thanks to a generous $5,000 grant awarded by The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Animals for Life is now able to cover the extensive medical costs that were incurred during this large-scale rescue.

The cats and kittens are finally healthy and have been spayed and neutered in preparation for adoption. This rescue would not have been possible without the help of all of our donors, volunteers, foster homes and care givers.

Even with all those involved in the rescue itself and the immediate assistance provided to the kittens, the long-term health and well-being of the animals rescued would have been in jeopardy.  With their compassionate and substantial grant, the ASPCA has provided the assurance the “kids are alright”.

It is now certain that the future is bright for these cats and kittens and that AFL will be able to provide whatever is needed to help them find loving adoptive homes.
Once again, THANK YOU to the ASPCA! See what all of our efforts have done for these beautiful kittens.

Wilma
Dozer
Leroy
This little cutie looks for all the world like a little german shepherd pup, but she's full grown at approx. 1 year old and about 25 lbs. We have no idea what her true breed mix is, but we do know that she's a lovely little dog who will leap right into your heart! Wilma is a playful and youthful pup who would love an active family and perhaps a dog playmate. She is a little shy with new people, but enjoys attention. Continued socialization will help her to become more comfortable in new situations. Wilma is not a good playmate for cats or small dogs, however - she stalks them like she's on the hunt and cannot be trusted with any small animals. Off leash play outside of a fenced area is not going to be safe for this little sweetie - she will readily take off after woodland creatures and neighborhood kitties! If you would like to meet Wilma, please call ahead to let us know when you'd like to visit. She is in a foster home and is generally available to be seen during our weekend adoption hours. Meet Dozer! This handsome lug of a dog came into our shelter as a stray. We have no idea who would let such a sweet dog just wander out of their life! Dozer is probably an Old English Bulldog mix and he is always eager to please. He is doing great with obedience training with our shelter trainer and enjoys learning new things. When he came into the shelter, it was pretty clear that someone allowed him to jump and play tug-of-war with the leash during walks. We've been working to get him out of that bad habit and he's learning quickly, but his new family will have to reinforce the training that we've started. We'll be happy to show you just how easy that can be if you stop in to say hello and meet this love of a dog! The shelter is open on Thursdays 5-7pm, Saturdays & Sundays 12-3pm. Take a look at this stunning white german shepherd & husky mix. He's a total catch with that beautiful white coat and a super sweet demeanor. Leroy has been doing well with other dogs and adores people. He's thrilled to have some snow to romp in and loves our fenced shelter play yard. Leroy is a smart boy who is eager to please. He thrives on attention and goes out of his way to seek out the people in his life. There's only one catch: Leroy is a bit of a "houdini" and he knows how to open doors. In his previous home, he was living in an apartment building and would let himself out into the hallway to visit the neighbors. Leroy will need his family to take some extra precautions to keep him safe. He shouldn't be left outside without supervision and special locks on exterior doors to the home may be necessary for his own protection.

Help keep our shelter dogs warm this cold winter with an elevated Kuranda Dog Bed!

You can donate a warm, soft Kuranda dog bed to Animals for Life and know that, thanks to your generous donation, our homeless dogs will have a comfortable place to sleep. The Kuranda Dog Bed Company is offering special discounts for these beds thru a Donation Program which sends the beds directly to the shelter. The donation can be made in your own name, or as a gift in the name of a pet lover or family member and a personalized gift acknowledgment card will be mailed directly to them.
Kuranda dog beds have been in use here at Animals for Life for over 3 years and they are the perfect beds to provide long lasting, orthopedic support for the dogs and ease of cleaning for the shelter staff. The design of the bed tucks the fabric into the specially molded channel making it virtually “chewproof”, backed by a full 1 Year Warranty!

The beds are sturdy and long lasting so you will be providing a lasting gift for a dog today and another tomorrow. They can make a big difference for even one dog who would otherwise have to spend most of the day on a cold concrete floor.
